Hey ladies!

Right now in the summer I really enjoy being in my garden and cherishing all my nice little garden treasure. Isn‘t it great to grow your own food? My friends always enjoy the quiches that I make from my home grown vegetables. Do you want to impress your friends as well? Let‘s get to the garden.

Raised Vegetable beds © by Jennifer Juniper mom

Your garden is perfect for growing everything you can imagine. Well… this means you have to get rid of some of the green lawn. But trust me! Your little farm will give you much more pleasure than that little piece of lawn. I think it is best to use your front yard for gardening, if you have one. This way you will have enough open space left in the backyard!

You should start with one or two planting beds. Afterward, you can easily add new ones every year. Growing your own food does not mean that your front yard has to look like a farm. Mix ornamental with edible farms to create an inviting entrance to your property.

Herbs are easy to cultivate so you may use them to make a start. Plus, some of the look awesome! It might even be sad to cut them for eating. Then add some vegetables. Pumpkins and watermelons are great. Tomatoes and carrots are very little work as well. Growing salads is a little bit more difficult but you might get the hang of it pretty fast.

Ooo… I think there is a farmer growing inside you. Now head outside and plow!

Let me share with you some secrets about shoes. Every single one of you will not how dresses can make you appear thinner. You already know the tricks when it comes to choosingthe correct pattern that fits your shape. However, did you know that it is the same with shoes? I guess not… Well, here we go!

Don

It may be quite obvious to many of you but I will mention it anyway: high heels do not only make you larger they also make you appear sinner because of the added height. If you want to enhance this impression even further choose shoes with pointed toes. The pointy toes will make the legs look thinner.

Furthermore, it is of the highest importance to wear shoes that match your hose. If you wear skirts or a dress they have to match your tights. The color of the shoes should match or be similar to the color of the hose and tights. If you even match the color of the skirt with the tights and shoes you will appear thinner from the waist down. Do not wear dark shoes with light hose/tights&shirts.

High heeled sandals as well as open toes will make you thighs and calves look slimmer than shoes with a closed-toe. Be also aware that ankle straps seem to shorten the length of the leg. Slingback are better than ankle straps but backless shoes are perfect, of course.

Come on… you did not know all of these tips. Go out and test them!

The technology underpinning the use of stem cells and related growth factors in cosmetics changes very rapidly. For example, the stem cell technology showcased at the International Congress of Esthetics and Spa has already been upgraded. One interesting area of research and implementation is the use of plant-based stem cells for cosmetic formulations.

While research has indicated that a totipotent plant stem cell model would produce better effects than a multipotent adult stem cell or IPS cells (induced pluripotent stem cell), there are still questions regarding the application of plant-based stem cell material on animals, namely human beings. Critical questions focus on the existence of human cell receptors for plant stem cells and the differentiation effects of plant-based stem cells. According to studies regarding PhytoCellTec, plant cells don’t regenerate human cells but their value lies in protecting human skin stem cells and guarding against future damage.

As for using human-derived stem cell materials in cosmetics, one such product is Osmosis Pür Medical Skin Care’s Stem Factor serum. This compound is made from growth factors which were cultured from the subcutaneous fat layer of healthy donors’ stem cells. According to some usage reports, usage of Stem Factor produced better looking skin, acne control, and cleared up old acne scars. Age lines and wrinkles were also reported to have been erased by this product. However, such testimonials are only anecdotal in nature.
Many do not report following stringent double blind procedures used when testing products rigorously. The observed effects may be the results of other products that were used in conjunction with the stem cell therapy. There was no effort, based on these usage reports, of segregating the differing products for efficacy.

You’ve experienced it: You sit in front of your dresser mirror applying your makeup, but you have to redo the lipstick because you hate the colour.

Countless women find choosing the lipstick colour that is just right for their lips and skin tone extremely difficult. It does not help that there are almost certainly hundreds of lipstick shades out there, which makes the approach of choosing the best lipstick shade for your lips a lot more complicated than it should be.

Nevertheless, you would be surprised at how easy finding the ideal lipstick colour really is.

The Trick to Discovering the Perfect Lipstick Coloration

The trick to discovering the perfect lipstick color for your lips is just this: get a lipstick shade that is a shade or two darker than the organic coloration of your lips. It is as straightforward as that.

Now, of course you would want to figure out just what variety of lipstick color would complement the tone of your skin. As a rule of thumb, if you have fair skin, you ought to go with soft pinks and coral reds to match the pinkish tone of your skin. Apricot would be a wonderful lipstick shade also if you are fair-skinned.

If your skin has olive tones, the lipstick colour that fits you would be something that has tones of rose or mauve. If you have dark skin, you really should decide on lipstick shades with deep reds, deep browns or chocolate.

The Appropriate Way of Acquiring a Lipstick

Now that you know what lipstick shade you really should go for, how do you determine if the lipstick you are thinking of buying is the perfect shade? The response to that is that you should put the lipstick on.

Nevertheless, never ever actually apply the sample lipstick directly to your lips. That is nasty! You never know how long that lipstick has been subjected to dust and dirt and putting it right to your lips may expose you to germs. As an alternative of putting the lipstick right to your lips, just swipe it from your finger or your palm.

There are some shops where it would not be possible for you to take a swipe of the sample lipstick on your skin because the sample lipstick is not accessible.

In that situation, you can just hold the product against your skin and look at it in the mirror. That will help you establish if the lipstick colour is just right for the tone of your skin.

Get More than just the Lipstick

When you shop for makeup, do not restrict your search to just the lipstick. Get a couple of lip liners as well. Lip liners are very helpful since they trace the natural line of your lips and prevent the lipstick from bleeding absent from your lips.

Take treatment to purchase lip liners that are a shade lighter than the lipstick hues you will blend them with. You can also go for a nude lip liner if you feel figuring out what colour of lip liner would match your lipstick colour is just as well a lot function for you.

Another instrument that could occur handy when you are applying makeup is a lipstick brush. A lipstick brush is very good if you are the kind who desires to place on just a thin layer of lipstick rather of slathering it across your lips.

A lipstick brush is also far more hygienic than dabbing your fingers on the lipstick and then rubbing it on your lips. In employing a lipstick brush, you minimize the want for kissing tissue to get rid of excess lipstick on your lips, as well as to prevent it from obtaining to your teeth.

Received the Incorrect Lipstick Shade?

Sometimes, even though you are positive that the shade of the lipstick that you acquired from the shop is the proper 1 for your skin tone, there are occasions that when you in fact get to use it, you would find that it is not really the appropriate shade for you, or you simply do not like the way it seems from your skin.

Do not despair, although. You can still make use of that lipstick. You do not have to waste cash by throwing it absent.

What you do in this situation is to get your lipstick brush and mix this undesired lipstick colour with your other lipsticks. In this way, you would be in a position to produce a shade of coloration that would be far more to your liking. You get a new shade of lipstick without getting a new one particular or throwing one particular absent.

Call it the Gen Y effect. The garishly colored nail polish that used to be the province of goth girls, emo kids, skater punks, and other “marginalized” youth subcultures has broken out into mainstream culture. Blue, gray, green, and even black nail polish has become quite accepted across a wide range of women – regardless of age or job category.

4 Nail Polish Colors © by Paeonia*

Part of the credit goes to Chanel Makeup’s global creative director, Peter Philips. His seasonal nail shades are such a hit that they are as hotly pursued as Chanel’s trademark handbags. While he admits he didn’t admit that he didn’t invent orange or green polish, he does claim that by lending Chanel’s well-established and much loved brand cachet to these colors, they gained credibility. Philips said that Chanel’s brand is so powerful that “[i]f Chanel makes a surfboard, it’s cool. Not every brand can do that.” Indeed. The power of Chanel really brought nail color independence to the marketplace. This is a far cry from the 1990s which championed a ‘natural look.’

Now, there’s another shift in makeup trends and nail polish look. The trend is to go back to a well-made-up look and nails are going into a whole new dimension. Chanel is once again leading the change in tastes. Although most people can’t just go and pick up a $4,000 Chanel jacket, most people can afford a $27 Chanel lipstick. The packaging carrying the iconic Chanel colors and logo is a very accessible luxury. With this in mind, keep an eye out for Chanel’s 2011 color initiative – metallic smoky colors. As for new nail polish trendy shades – iridescent shades like Peridot.

Have you ever heard about argan oil? It is made from the nuts of a special Moroccan tree: Argania Spinosa. The oil is rich in vitamin E and does an awesome job in rejuvenating your skin. There are argain oils for use in food and other lower grade for cosmetic uses.

Argana © by Tine72

If you got raw argan oil for cosmetic use, just take a few drops and apply them to your face. You really only need a little amount. Otherwise your face would become greasy and unable to soak in all the oil. If you apply it before sleeping it will give a lot of moisture to the skin. You can also use it in the morning under your make up. The oil is very charming to the skin. I haven’t heard of any irritations yet. If you don’t apply to much there won’t be any residue.
Here’s how to apply:

- wash your face with a mild cleansing agent
- refresh your face with cold water
- take some drops of argan oil, rub it in your fingers to warm it up a little
- apply it to your whole face
- massage your skin to help the oil penetrate it

Of course, you can also apply the oil to your body if you don’t think it is to expensive for this purpose. You can even use it four your hair & nails. I will give you instructions for this in a later post.

Have fun trying it!

In a sink of warm water add two drops of tea tree essential oil and two drops of lavender. Tea tree is an anti-bacterial and lavender is anti-inflammatory. These oils will gently cleanse your face and naturally reduce the appearance of red areas. Using very gentle circular motions wash your face using a clean flannel. When you have washed your face flush yourself with cold, fresh water and pat your face dry with a clean towel.
Add two teaspoons of sugar to two table spoons of clear honey and stir gently. Once more using gentle, circular motions use your finger tips to apply the exfoliating mixture to your face. It is a myth that you need to ‘scrub’. The skin on your face is extremely delicate. Using your flannel wash the honey from your face with clean warm water and pat dry with your towel. Now apply a thin layer of your favourite SPF face moisturiser and you are ready to apply your killer make up!

Every woman has a distant memory of sitting in front of her mom’s dresser, attempting to imitate her application of makeup. In every one of those memories, the lipstick stands out as maybe the symbol of “grown-up” femininity. Maybe that is why it continues to attract women, no matter what age. A lipstick is considered to be an essential product, something women just cant live without. Most women use it every day, but have you ever wondered what lipstick is made of? Even though women apply it to their lips on a regular basis, only very few of them know the ingredients of the product. Lipstick components might differ from brand to brand and shade to shade. But every lipstick contains some common elements, while some might also include organic components.

Lipstick was one of the very first cosmetics ever to be used as make-up. Its use can be traced back to the ancient Egyptians, who made it out of henna or crushed insects like carmine or cochineal beetles, as well as ants to create several shades of red lipstick. Strong lipstick was first introduced by Abu al-Qasim al-Zahrawi, an Arab cosmetologist, and popularized by Queen Elizabeth who set a trend with her blood red lips.

Typical Lipstick Ingredients

Even though the composition ratio differs, every lipstick contains the following ingredients.

* Wax: The wax utilized in lipsticks is a mix of three kinds of wax, namely – beeswax, candelilla wax and carnauba wax. Carnauba wax is a form of plant wax, which is derived from the leaves of Brazilian wax palm trees, and is a lot more pricey compared to the other two. No wonder that lipsticks containing more carnauba wax tend to be more expensive. Wax is usually included in lipsticks because it allows for the easy shaping of the product.

* Vital oil: Distinct sorts of oils like castor oil, vegetable oil, lanolin and mineral oil are used as ingredients as well. Cocoa butter can also be used in combination with these oils. Vital oil and wax are quintessential lipstick components and constitute about 60% of the lipstick.

* Pigments and Dyes: They are used in the lipstick to give colour or shade to the lipstick. The dyes used in a lipstick include bromo acid, D&C Red No. 21, D&C Orange No. 17 and D&C Red No. 34. The pigments are either obtained from vegetation, or are a combination of a variety of chemicals.

* Fragrance: This can be found in lipsticks in little quantities and gives a pleasant scent to the lipstick that suppresses the odor of the other components.

* Alcohol: This is used as a solvent for the wax and oils used as lipstick elements.

* Preservatives and Anti-oxidants: They are added to keep the lipstick fresh and prevent it from turning stale or rancid.

Apart from these common lipstick components, lipsticks may also contain organic ingredients like vitamin E, jojoba oil, shea butter, sunflower or chamomile oils, organic pigments like turmeric or beet and so on. These natural components are edible and make the lipstick risk-free for everyday use.

Unsafe Lipstick Elements

Lipsticks may also contain some of the following harmful elements.

* Lead: Lead is often used in lipstick, but can be dangerous in that it may lead to infertility, anemia and cancer or result in learning disabilities, mental retardation and behavioral difficulties. The US FDA has strict rules regarding the use of lead as a lipstick ingredient.

* Coal Tar Derived F&C Coloring: Pigments used to make red lipstick, particularly Red #40, are derived from coal tar. Coal Tar is a poisonous combination, which if ingested can result in headache, nausea, attention deficit, skin irritation, etc.

* Carmine: This is a natural foods coloring agent which can be obtained by the boiling of pigmented beetles, and is recognized to cause skin irritations and allergic reactions.

* Lake Colours: They are extremely poisonous, artificial coloring agents that are obtained from carcinogenic sources and can lead to cancer, skin irritation and allergy symptoms.

* Fragrance: The fragrance used as a lipstick ingredient can also be unsafe and can trigger dry, chapped lips and dermatitis.

Now that you know what lipstick is made of, look for lipsticks containing more natural ingredients and avoid those that list any of the harmful lipstick ingredients mentioned above.

You know that lipstick you wear, that indispensable beauty product that you pucker-up in the mirror every day to apply? Well, you eat it! Literally, every time you lick your lips with it on you are ingesting it. That need-to-have brilliant and beautiful mixture of wax and pigment that you use every day is little different in its composition than a colorful wax crayon. It may seem surprising, but take a look at these facts:

* In its June 2002 edition, Glamour Magazine reported that women inadvertently ingest nearly four pounds of lipstick over the course of their lives. Even though no studies have sufficiently backed up the “four pound” claim, it is true that every time a woman licks her lips she swallows a bit of the wax – wax that is composed of pigments, preservatives, and lead.

* The pigments used in lipstick often incorporate iron oxides, dyes, pigments, and additives. Shade pigments contain aluminum and other metals such as lead, you read that right— lead. Lead, in trace amounts, is found in nearly all dyes and pigments that are used for lipstick color.

* Perpetual lead exposure can cause significant neurological problems, especially for young people and can lead to decreased cognitive skills, irritability, headaches, lethargy, hyperactivity, and in some cases insomnia.

* A survey of approximately 6,000 girls in 2004 found that 63% of those aged ten and younger had used lipstick.

* A study by The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics – a nonprofit national health coalition – found that more than 60% of brand-name lipsticks contained lead.

* At present, lipstick labels are not required to list lead as an ingredient. Although the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspects all pigments that are to be used as cosmetic ingredients before they are sold, every formulation is different, therefore the amount of lead cannot easily be determined and it is thereby not required to be listed as an ingredient. (Note: the more pigment used, the higher the level of lead). It may seem surprising, but nearly 1/3 of the 33 main lipstick brands contain levels of lead that exceed the limit set by the FDA for candy (0.1 parts per million (ppm)).

* There is no limit set by the FDA for lead amounts in lipstick.

* Studies reveal that lead amounts in lipstick vary anywhere from .03ppm to .65 ppm, but scientists have yet to study those who wear lipstick and assess whether they exhibit elevated levels of lead in their bloodstreams.

* Most lipsticks are comprised of anywhere from 3% to 17% pigment.

A simple test for the presence of lead in a lipstick can be done by applying a streak of lipstick on the hand and then rubbing it. If the lipstick leaves a faint black line, then it contains lead.

Lipstick is made by grinding a color mixture into oil, for instance propylene glycol – which is readily available and inexpensive to use. Propylene glycol has excellent solubility and complies with lipstick manufacturing specifications, although Propylene glycol has been identified as causing cancer. The color mixtures are then added to a wax, such as candellila, bees wax, or paraffin – this is very similar to the procedure used to make crayons, which is made by combining shade pigments with very hot paraffin before it is cooled. Both the wax for lipstick and the wax for crayons have malleable properties which allow them to be molded and formed into something solid. The ingredients are melted collectively with types of humectants and are blended with animal-fat oils or by-products like cholesterol and lanolin. To keep the lipstick formula moist and slippery, Shea butters or other oils are used. Considerable quantities of preservatives are added to thwart the growth of bacteria and to keep ingredients like Shea butter from going rancid. At this stage, while the mixture is still hot, it is poured into metal molds, where it then solidifies. A flame passes over the mixture to get rid of any imperfections as well as to give the substance a shiny finish. The molded substance is then placed into metal or plastic tubes and is ready for placement on the market. Voila! – Lipstick!

* “Long-lasting” lipstick requires higher levels of pigment and greater quantities of wax and other additives.

* To give lipstick a frosted look, aluminum is added. Manufacturers also include sunscreen and other protective items to induce consumers into buying what they believe are healthier products.

Wondering where lipstick originally came from? – the ancient Egyptians! Historians believe lipstick was likely invented by the Egyptians. In some ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, the eyes and mouths of the images are radiantly colored. To create their form of the cosmetics, Egyptians combined various vegetable extracts and matters, as well as cinnabar, plant dye, iodine and bromine carmine (otherwise known as beetle wings!). Although some of these ancient components are no longer deemed safe, they are still safer than the ingredients used today by lipstick’s modern manufacturers.

Unfortunately, healthy substances like botanicals, antioxidants, nutritional vitamins, minerals and organic live elements are rendered completely useless in the molded color-stick we like to call lipstick. Little improvement has been made to reform this aspect of the industry, and not a lot of thought or effort has been expended into making lipstick an eco-friendly, sustainable product. But the solution is out there! Botanically-based lip shades could be made with:

~ Natural Flavored 190 proof corn grain alcohol from U.S.

~ Sun Screens (UVA/UVB)

~ Moisturizers

~ Certified Natural Botanicals

~ Minerals (13 Trace Minerals)

~ Vitamins (Pharmaceutical Grade)

~ All-Natural Film Formers, such as those used in Pill and Candy Coatings

~ Humectants

~ Vibrant Color Shades Significantly less Pigment (FDA accepted)

~ De-ionized Drinking water

~ Antioxidants

~ Organic Live Substances

~ Vegan & Kosher Ingredients

~ Smear-Proof Guarantee

~ No Animal Products or By-products

~ No Petroleum Products

~ No Lacquers

~ No Waxes

~ No Additional Preservatives

~ No Glycols

~ No Urea

~ No Lead

~ No Aluminum

~ Raw (Never-Cooked)

Garden offices have gained much popularity in recent years and are in great demand and various suppliers and manufactures has specialized on them. Nevertheless, there are important aspects to remember before buying a garden office. Of course, should always be looking for the best deal. But there is more than that. In fact, there are some important aspects to be thinking about when buying a garden office or garden studio.

&#13

Before purchasing a garden office you need to know exactly what its function will be. This will help you determine whether or not the specific design you are considering can meet your demands. If, for example, you are buying a building that will be used as a garden office, you really want to make sure that there is good lighting available. If the space is to be used as a gymnasium, then there needs to be a provision for sufficient ventilation. If you plan a garden or a lodge, then you need to think about suitable heating.

&#13

The location of your garden office is also important. In the UK, you will probably not require planning permission as long as the garden office is situated at least 5 metres from your home and occupies less than 50% of the garden’s area. A Permission is also not required should the garden office or garden studio be built for private use and be at least 20 metres away from any public space.

&#13

You should also be careful about the height of the building. The height of modular garden offices should not exceed four metres, because you will need to get a permission if it does. You will also need a permission if the building consists of two or more floors and if the room exceeds 30 sq. metres.

&#13

Finally, you will also want to check the materials used for both constructing and designing the office. There are numerous suppliers who can provide the best garden offices. For information regarding garden offices and garden studios visit gardenlodges.co.uk.
